Classroom Accommodations

Problems Faced

  1. Therapeutic medications may affect performance and speed

Accommodations Required

General Techniques

  • Encourage students to discuss modifications that will facilitate their learning, any medications they are taking and side effects they may have, and any symptoms of stress to be noticed.
  • It is helpful to avoid escalating negative behaviors/situations by using a calm, non-threatening voice and demeanor.
  • Allow students to sit near the exit in case they need to leave the classroom.
  • Allow short breaks.
  • Allow additional time for exams as medications or inability to concentrate interfere with speed.
  • Be aware of changes in behavior that could be symptomatic of recurrence of problems. *Encourage students to use relaxation and other stress reducing techniques, especially during exams.
