Problems Faced
- Therapeutic medications may affect performance and speed
Accommodations Required
General Techniques
- Encourage students to discuss modifications that will facilitate their learning, any medications they are taking and side effects they may have, and any symptoms of stress to be noticed.
- It is helpful to avoid escalating negative behaviors/situations by using a calm, non-threatening voice and demeanor.
- Allow students to sit near the exit in case they need to leave the classroom.
- Allow short breaks.
- Allow additional time for exams as medications or inability to concentrate interfere with speed.
- Be aware of changes in behavior that could be symptomatic of recurrence of problems. *Encourage students to use relaxation and other stress reducing techniques, especially during exams.
