India

While many may view people with physical disabilities as a strata of the society cut off from the main stream, it was heartening to see that these very people came out in large numbers to exercise their right to vote in the recent Municipal Corporation elections. The recent elections in Manimajra, on Saturday saw a large number of physically challenged people cast their vote. Some treated their limitations as a power, others just wanted to exercise their right to vote as citizens of India.

Everyone present was very keen to vote for the MC elections. Age no bar, sex no bar. It included visually impaired, physically challenged and accident victims as well. This should really motivate the people , who take no interest in voting.

Ram Lakha is 88 years old and the fact that he has only one arm, did not stop him from voting. He also got his neighbour Pawan Kumar to the polling centre at Modern Housing Complex, Manimraja. He proudly announced that he had not missed voting to this very day.
