An upcoming career option which can be pursued by the people with visual impairment is beauty and personal care sector. This sector is growing remarkably in every place in our country. With increasing disposable incomes people don’t mind spending on beauty and personal care. The visually impaired can break the traditional mould and adopt these career opportunities very easily.

Those having visual impairment can take the training in therapeutic massage. Blind Relief Association, Delhi and VLCC have started a course in collaboration with each other. This vocational course imparts scientific training to the blind in therapeutic massaging, aromatherapy, pressure point massage and body therapy techniques. Both men and women can do the course and become self reliant. These massage techniques are especially designed for the blind students. Those who have passed 8th standard with science as one of the subjects can join this course. The training is free of cost. The students are awarded certificates after 3 months course. Those trained in the area can open up their own massage parlours.

The Blind Relief Association, New Delhi also provides self employment assistance and placement facilities to the pass outs. There are lot of job opportunities in parlours, gyms, spas, hotels and health resorts. Blind masseurs are in an advantageous position as they are well-practiced in use of their hands. They develop a great sense of touch and feel due to their impairment. Even the attitude of people is positive in this direction.
